Following AANEM guidelines, our symptom‑ and exam‑guided EMGs and nerve conduction studies yield the highest sensitivity and specificity — to avoid incorrect surgeries and unnecessary imaging.
To my knowledge, I am the only provider in a 2 hour drive in Eau Claire that performs physician only EMGs every day of the week. Most providers do once weekly testing. Daily testing yields proficiency and accuracy. I enjoy doing the test and patients leave happy knowing that there is something they can do about their symptoms. If nothing else, patients feel validated.

I do NOT do carpal tunnel injections. I do what the surgeons are extremely hesitant to do (brachial plexus, sciatic nerve, femoral nerve, suprascapular nerve, and other proximal nerves near the hips and shoulders). I do NOT want the impression that I steal their business which I don't. Carpal tunnel, cubital tunnel, and most things from the elbow down and knee down go back to the surgeon. The surgeon isn't stuck with "what do I do with sciatic neuropathy?" if that is the test result, as I can offer interventions that surgeons rarely touch and tend to work well for me.
